Choosing a new boiler in Eastbourne
Most people only buy a boiler two or three times in their life, so nobody expects you to know which one you need. This page is for the deciding part: which type suits your house, what moves the price, and whether you need a new boiler at all.
- Not tied to any one manufacturer
- Sized at the house, not over the phone
- Told straight if a repair will do
- Written quote for a named boiler

Combi, system or regular
A combi heats your water as you use it, with no cylinder. It suits most smaller houses and flats.
A system boiler keeps a hot water cylinder. It is usually the better answer in a bigger house, because it gives steady pressure to every tap.
A regular boiler runs with tanks in the loft as well as a cylinder. Converting one to a combi takes the tanks out of the loft and frees the airing cupboard, but it is a bigger job than a like-for-like swap.
Getting the size right for the house
The right boiler depends on how many bathrooms you have, how many people use them at the same time, and what pressure your incoming mains gives you. Once a house is running two bathrooms at once, a combi is often the wrong answer, and a system boiler with a properly sized cylinder works better.
We settle that at the survey by looking at the house. Anyone who sizes a boiler over the phone without seeing it is guessing.
What changes the price
Two houses on the same street can need very different work, which is why the quote comes after the survey. It is written, and it is for a named boiler.
- The flue route, and whether the new boiler can use the old one
- The gas supply, and whether the run needs upgrading
- Whether the existing pipework will carry the new boiler
- A like-for-like swap, or a conversion to a different system
- Moving the boiler to a new position
You might not need a new one
We would rather tell you to repair the boiler you have than sell you one you do not need. A younger boiler with a failed part is usually worth fixing. An old one losing pressure every week usually is not.
If you have already been quoted for a new boiler elsewhere, send it over and we will price the same job against it.

Questions people ask first
What does a new boiler cost?
Nobody can answer that honestly over the phone. The price turns on the flue route, the gas supply, whether the existing pipework will carry the new boiler, and whether you are swapping like for like or converting the system. We survey the property and you get a written quote, not a range.
Combi, system or regular: which boiler do I need?
It depends on how many bathrooms you have, how many people use them at once, and what pressure the incoming main gives you. A combi suits most smaller houses and flats. A larger house running two bathrooms at the same time is usually better on a system boiler and a cylinder. The survey settles it.
Can you price against a quote I already have?
Yes. Send us the quote you have, with the prices blanked out if you prefer, and we will price the same job against it. That goes for a domestic boiler as much as a commercial plant room. If the quote you have is a fair one, you will be told that too.
What about the boiler warranty?
Manufacturer warranties are registered as part of the job. Most of them require an annual service to stay valid, so it is worth putting that in the diary rather than finding out later that the cover lapsed.
Who actually turns up?
The engineer who looked at the job. There is no call centre and no salesman on commission between you and the person doing the work.
In their words
Steve arrived at the time and date quoted and all work was carried out efficiently and with no fuss. I can wholly recommend Steve and his work based on my experience.
Steve was recommended to me by a friend as I was converting an under stairs cupboard into a cloakroom and toilet and I needed someone friendly and reliable to carry out the plumbing work. I was very impressed with Steve's attitude as nothing was too much trouble and he explained what needed to be done prior to him starting and what parts I needed to supply and what parts he would provide.
